APPEARANCE

If Reno was anything, he was never crisp and pristine-looking like the rest of his fellow, Turks. He was always in some mess of disarray, never opting to wear the standard tie. The redhead always look like he was in some hurry for dressing though it could be for the fact he is a former Slum Rat and the only acceptable dress code is that you’re wearing something.

His body is covered in numerous scars of all sorts, most from his gang days and the most prominent are the two scars on his cheekbones which he had tattooed over with red ink. He usually has a pack of cigarettes on his person but he always have his EMR (Electric Magnetic Rod) near him in case of everything. Reno also almost never appears without his customary goggles on his forehead.

One of the few humans capable of having and maintaining a mullet and still look good, Reno prides himself in his hair despite him never really taking “great” care of it. He doesn’t like anyone to mess with it though without his consent. Punishment varies by the amount of time contact has been made.

PERSONALITY

He's cocky, arrogant, loves children, disorganized, laid-back, lazy, defiant, when push comes to shove is the most dedicated man one will ever know, has high morals, drinks a lot of alcohol if a mission he finishes doesn't agree with his morals, smokes cigarettes (one-two packs a day), was a former druggie, flirty, very loyal to friends, loves to talk just to fill space. Reno still in many cases a troublemaker and loves to butt into other people’s lives.

Being a flirt with seemingly low morals, Reno would and will like to get frisky with anything on two legs. Usually when he spies something he likes, he goes for it, regardless of the rebound/reactions he might receive. Plus being bisexual means he could get the best of both worlds, so long as the other person is completely willing. He would never cross lines that have been already set and most of the time he knows when to stop his flirting. (Most of the time. Sometimes, one has to literally kick him in the balls.)

Reno always loves a good fight and loves to provoke people if he thinks it will be fun. Usually he’s more mellow if he’s sober and with his coworkers on a mission and usually then he’ll just act completely bored with what he has to do, which is probably exactly how he feels about the mission.

This Turk fights to die, or at least lives like every minute is his last. Being a former gang member and a Turk, Reno didn’t have a lot of choices in looking at life and it was too damn fun not to try and stare death in the eye, playing a game of cat and mouse.

Reno’s almost like a real life rock star. He’s gone through the drugs (swears he’ll never take them again unless forced), sex (which he thinks he can never have enough of), and the music of Rock which he loves over everything.

Also note, there is a specific reason why Rude is always babysitting him.

Reno is a cocky bastard with a loudmouth that is almost always expressive in anything and everything except on a mission. He likes toying with people before killing them off and is a masochist though not by any means a real lover of pain. If he could feel pain, then he knows he’s still living and that’s the only thing that matters to him.

HISTORY

Coming from a poor background and being an orphan to boot, Reno—then known as Rayne the Maverick—as a kid (and later a teen) became involved with gangs and drugs and was hospitalized more than once (especially during his early to mid-teens). One of the most prominent drugs he experimented in the past was Maruku or Marky as it is known by users and dealers.

Maruku: an Illegal drug (No one is quote sure what exactly it is though some believe that Maruku is actually fragmented Materia, which might be impossible as Materia cannot simply be shattered or broken) that ran the Slum circuit. Said to give SOLDIER-like abilities and enhances Materia usage until one actually merges with Materia, therefore able to use Magic on the spur of a moment though usually at a great cost.

Side Effects: Mako sickness, paralysis, blindness, harsh Withdrawal, depression, long-term berserk-like tendencies, insanity... and a whole lot more of fucked up shit.

It was due to the hell he went through with Maruku, Reno swore off any use of them, stating that just being around the shit (Materia) made him sick to his stomach and any use of Materia made him want to literally vomit. Considering he almost died, several times in fact, because of Maruku related problems (mostly during his withdrawal), it is understandable on his reticence to use them. He rather die needing a potion or elixir than live because of a Cure spell.

Throughout his gang “career,” Reno was known as Rayne the Maverick and one of the best guys there was in both hit and protecting. It didn’t help that he had a natural affinity for the element of Lighting/Bolt (it become even “better” after he managed to absorb an actual black market Mastered Bolt materia though the action had indeed almost killed him), either or that he loved machinery, swearing that one day he’s going to fly and manage his very own helicopter. One day, everything changed.

Reno soon found himself offered a job as a Turk. The people at ShinRa said they were keeping track of him, saying they could use someone like him. Reno thought it was bullshit at first but soon decided why not. It was probably the only way out of the Slums with a guy’s pride intact and there was nothing more to Reno than having some pride still left in him. Even if everyone of his former “friends” thought him traitor and tried to kill him every single time he stepped foot onto the slums.

Now with ShinRa being known as one of the good “guys” in helping the WRO, World Restoration Organization, Reno finds himself a little box that knocks him out unconscious on the way back to his apartment in Midgar. He’s pissed as hell and doesn’t mind telling anyone that is. He wants his Blackbird back, is that too much to ask for?
